There have been some changes to the Maternity/Paternity leaves since 1/1/2017.
There are three types of leaves:
1. Pregnancy Disability Leave
a. for delivery of child, note from doctor, generally 6 or 8 weeks depending on delivery
b. exhaust sick leave, then can use Excessive Sick Leave (up to 100 days, paid at 50%, health care covered at your current rate)
2. Maternity/Paternity Leave
a. 12 weeks
b. exahust sick leave, then can use Excessive sick Leave (up to 100 days, paid at 50%, health care covered at current rate)
3. Child Rearing Leave
Up to 12 months of leave. Unpaid.
What is the Excessive Sick Leave?
A bank of 100 days for sick leave, paid at 50% of your rate, and continues your paid sick leave at your current level rate.
What about the Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank?
This can’t be used to pregnancy nor maternity nor maternity. This bank was set up by VUEA, and pregnancy was exlcuded because it depleted a previous version of the bank.
